Biography:
Karimah Ashadu (b. London 1985) is an award-winning British-Nigerian Artist specialising in the moving image. Concerned with perceptions of self and place, and discovering sensitivities in the mundanity of the everyday, her practice also considers sculpture and performance.

Exhibitions and screenings include “Power Man”, De Ateliers (Amsterdam Art Weekend 2018), “Modern Mondays”, MoMA, New York, “Biennale of Moving Images”, Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, Faena Arts Center Buenos Aires and Faena Forum, Miami Beach (2016). Public collections include the City of Geneva Contemporary Art Collection.

Ashadu was one of the participants of renowned artists’ institute De Ateliers, Amsterdam (2014 – 2016). She is the recipient of several awards and grants including Arts Council England, De Ateliers and ARTE Creative. Awarded jury prizes at Ann Arbor Film Festival, Euro Video and Split Film Festival. Winner of the 2018-2020 Edith Breckwoldt Studio Fellowship, in association with The Ministry of Culture Hamburg and Künstlerhaus FRISE, Hamburg. Featured Artist of the seminal 64th Robert Flaherty Seminar, New York.

She lives and works in Hamburg and Lagos.
