Gernot Wieland during his lecture “On Parrots” at the FITZ Theater Stuttgart.
On Parrots. (en/de) – In the talk, Gernot Wieland explores ideas of metamorphosis and biography, autofiction and authenticity, parrots and psychoanalysis, gestures and longings, or simply everything that has brought him here.
Gernot Wieland studied art in Berlin and Vienna. He lives and works in Berlin. In his films, which are shown internationally at festivals and art exhibitions, in cinemas, installations and lecture performances, Gernot Wieland interweaves very diverse materials, techniques and narrative strategies. In doing so, “material”, “technique” and “narrative” appear as fragmentary and temporary manifestations of one and the same thing, which itself is difficult to name – something between dream and voice, memory and archive. Gernot Wieland’s films have been awarded the main prize in the German Competition of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, among others.
