In her 1991 book of the same title Brenda Laurel suggests that when designing digital products – be it VR or Excel – interface designers and developers are like stage designers and playwrights who are creating worlds “like reality only different” and therefore should obey the same laws of drama. 30 years later we revisit her ideas to see what kind of realities have been “staged”, what genres got popular and what kind of “spectacle” we are to be apart of in the nearest future.
