Experimental Documentary Practice focuses on documentary, journalistic, and experimental projects using photography, video, audio recordings, and illustration. These media are techniques and practices that phenomenologically explore and create relationships with the world.
Representation is central to debates on power and visibility in media, art, and politics. Images are caught up in complex negotiations of power in society, where clichés, stereotyping, marginalization, tokenization, political manipulation, excessive commodification all play a role in defining the reality we live in. Finding one’s voice and visual language within these power negotiations is an artistic, theoretical, and existential challenge.
Amid rapid technological and political changes, documentary practice can become an instrument to record, interpret, and ultimately intervene in the world.
At its core interdisciplinary, the program seeks both to support students in their quest to improve their specific technical skills and develop their own artistic voice.
