Corona-Diaries

Over 13 weeks of the film and video/theory project, which was taught jointly by Christoph Dreher and David Weber via the Internet, in the 2020 summer semester, the students had the task of creating a weekly video diary of 7 minutes in which they were to record, reflect and artistically process the special situation of living and studying under lockdown conditions using mobile phones, tablets and computers, one minute for each day.

At the end of the semester, more than 150, partly very personal diaries were collected. They show how the examination of the exceptional situation has developed – the creative consideration or even breaking of diary rules, the discovery of personal and special, sometimes artistic images and forms, the development of methods of montage and the use of audio commentary. The examination of events not only in the immediate vicinity of the house and online study, but also on the streets of Stuttgart and the world, when the Black Lives Matter movement took place there, as well as protests against the Corona restrictions or the Stuttgart riot night.

Tag 69 – Mo – 08.06.20
Der Mann schlief ein am Wegesrand,
Und schlummerte dort ganz gar tief.
Jahre verging’n, bis man ihn fand,
Und keiner weiß, wie lang er schlief.

Tag 70 – Di – 09.06.20
Die Ranken schlungen sich um ihn,
Der da an einem Baumstamm lehnt’.
Wovon er träumt, was er ersehnt,
Sollt’ alles mit der Zeit vergeh’n.

Tag 71 – Mi – 10.06.20
Mit schwerem Blick sah’n sie ihn an.
Was er zu Lebzeit wohl getan?
Welch böse Geister trieben ihn
In solch ein übles Schicksal hin?

Es kamen mehr und mehr heran,
Zum abgeleg’nen Grabesort.

About the semester project “Mockumentary”

Since the 1960s, various varieties of mockumentary have appeared – films that once again take a different approach to and reflect the representational, realistic, representative claim of the (direct, “pure”) documentary film. This is done by means of imitation (“mocking”), i.e. a playful, ironic, caricaturing reference to the “serious” models of the world images of the documentary film. How exactly a mockumentary is created and how it has developed up to the present day will be examined in the semester project.

Tag 17 – Fr – 17.04.20
Das Tolle der modernen Welt,
Ist, dass jede Information
Zu jeder Zeit zugänglich ist.
Alles Wissen, das auf der Erd’
Gesammelt wurde, ist findbar,
Wenn man es möchte. Man sollte
Meinen, dass es unmöglich wär,
