Merz Akademie at Kometenparade

26.11.2020

Winter Market of Independent Publishers

Books could be ordered from the online pop-up store until December 18. The store will be supplemented and accompanied by, among other things, the all-day literature program with live streaming readings, a digital Advent calendar with short readings and clips.

The Merz Akademie will present the ten most beautiful books from the university’s own publication program at the Winter Market. Behind the “Kometenkalender” door is also the clip of the first-semester project “Lockdown der Dinge“.

Under normal circumstances, the first-semester students would have enjoyed an introduction to the in-house photo studio and then happily worked on photographic still lifes on site. However, the summer semester was to be anything but normal. Set up in home offices and home studios, they experienced the first lockdown of the pandemic together – and consequently made it their program. The publication “Lockdown der Dinge” now brings together 20 student still lifes and still life series born out of this experiment, accompanied by 20 texts in which the students articulate their subjective approaches to still life, the lockdown, and the new everyday life produced by it.

In addition, the Merz Akademie is organizing two radio broadcasts in cooperation with Freies Radio für Stuttgart.
