Navigating cross-cultural contexts

Considering fluctuating interpretations of Karimah Ashadu work in cross-cultural contexts – the process of making films in West Africa and showing in Europe, The Americas and Beyond.

Ashadu was one of the participants of renowned artists‘ institute De Ateliers, Amsterdam (2014 – 2016). She is the recipient of several awards and grants including Arts Council England, De Ateliers and ARTE Creative. Awarded jury prizes at Ann Arbor Film Festival, Euro Video and Split Film Festival. Winner of the 2018-2020 Edith Breckwoldt Studio Fellowship, in association with The Ministry of Culture Hamburg and Künstlerhaus FRISE, Hamburg. Featured Artist of the seminal 64th Robert Flaherty Seminar, New York.

She lives and works in Hamburg and Lagos.
