It’s hard to know what we institute when we don’t institute but we do know what it feels like. – Stefano Harney and Fred Moten
Departing from the socio-poetic reflections by Stefano Harney and Fred Moten, formulated in their co-authored book „The Undercommons“ (2013), this course posed the question of what a „network“ is in close relation to the practice of study, collaboration, participation and communities.
Over the course of the semester, participants closely examined the working mechanisms, dependencies, and slippages within their own networks, in and outside the university. The communities, institutions, and structures examined, revealed to be multifaceted and often ambivalent fields of collective association. Each in their own way, they contain affective forces that can be empowering and seductive simultaneously. The videos, text pieces, and multimedia projects bear witness of these relations.
